Leigh Ann Warren, on disability leave, returns from out of town to discover that her former fiancé, Detective Dillon Upshur (Duck) Kennedy has disappeared and is wanted by both sides of the law. And the dead body in her apartment has in his pocket the key she gave to Duck.  Refusing to believe the dark rumors about him, Leigh Ann has to find him before the head-hunters do and almost loses her own head in the process.
