When Cindy Sample was eight, her dream was to be a super cool
detective like Nancy Drew, racing around town in a sky blue
roadster. At sixteen she determined that her innate klutziness
would be an impediment to becoming a private eye or super spy so
she decided to become a mystery writer. A few decades and
diversions later, she was a newly divorced Mom and CEO, driving
her kids to cheerleading and soccer practice. In a sky blue SUV.
Although Cindy Sample’s initial dream was to be an author, she put aside her literary longings for a weekly paycheck, landing a job as a receptionist with a real estate office. Her career path eventually led to the position of CEO of a nationwide mortgage banking company.
After one too many corporate mergers, Cindy found herself plotting murder instead of plodding through paperwork. Her experiences with on-line dating sites fueled the concept for Dying for a Date, a humorous romantic mystery set in the gold country town formerly known as Hangtown, California.
Cindy writes the popular “Hot Flash” column for the Gold River Community Newspaper. She is a past president of the Sacramento chapter of Sisters in Crime and has also served on the boards of the California Mortgage Bankers Assn., Sacramento Opera, the YWCA, and is co-chair of Left Coast Crime 2012. She has two wonderful adult children who live too far away.
