After an arsonist burns her collie kennels and threatens to kill her, Susanna Kentwood accepts the offer of a distant relative to watch over an isolated three-story country house, Snowhedge, until it sells. This should be an ideal safe haven, but Susanna slowly becomes aware that something is wrong in the house. Her suspicions are confirmed when the parlor, empty and unnaturally cold, transforms itself into a room decorated for a Christmas celebration, complete with a spirit woman dressed in festive red.
