Karen MacInerney has always
loved food. She's always loved the coast. And she's always loved
mysteries. So a few years ago, she decided to combine her
favorite things...and cooked up the Gray Whale Inn mystery
series!
Murder on the Rocks (Midnight Ink, May 2006) is the first helping in the series; the book stars transplanted Texan and novice innkeeper Natalie Barnes along with a cast of quirky characters from Cranberry Island, Maine.
Although Karen currently lives in Texas, she has spent many summers in small island fishing communities off the coast of Newfoundland and Maine; these days, she visits Maine every year. Karen is a gardener, a reader, and an avid cook--one of her favorite parts of writing the Gray Whale Inn mysteries is coming up with recipes! (Readers interested in winning a cameo appearance in Dead and Berried are invited to enter the Muffins are Murder contest--details are on Karen's web site.
Along with the Gray Whale Inn novels, a series of Gray Whale Inn mystery stories--including recipes--are scheduled to appear in Bed and Breakfast America Magazine starting this fall.
Karen is also the co-author of Tourmaline Teal with Barbara Burnett Smith and just signed a three-book deal with Ballantine (Random House) for a new chick lit werewolf mystery series. Karen is a member of Mystery Writers of America, Sisters in Crime, and the founder of Austin Mystery Writers.
