When Katharine Murray is invited to journey with Dr. Florence Gadney to a Georgia barrier island to investigate what may be Dr. Flo’s grandfather’s grave, neither expects to also find skeleton’s in Dr. Flo’s family closet. By the time they have encountered rattlesnakes, mosquitoes, an angry old woman in overalls wielding a shotgun, and a serious sniper, they have dug up more than one grave. Why is one of them marked by an obelisk carved with a skull and crossed bones? Why were Dr. Flo’s African American relatives buried in a plantation family cemetery—especially since her father always insisted his family had never been slaves? It takes some fancy genealogical research to put together this family puzzle before the sins of the fathers are visited on the third generation.
