Preparations are underway for Lake Eden, Minnesota's annual Winter Carnival, and Hannah Swensen is set to bake up a storm at her popular bakery and coffee shop, The Cookie Jar.  The guest of honor is Connie Mac, famous lifestyle maven, who's been asked to bake the official Winter Carnival cake.  Turns out American's "Cooking Sweetheart" is bossy, bad-tempered and downright domineering, but Hannah swallows her dislike and offers her kitchen at The Cookie Jar when the official cake is damaged in transit.  Things boil over the next morning when Hannah arrives to find Connie Mac dead in her pantry, struck down while eating one of Hannah's Blue Blueberry Muffins.  Now Hannah's shop is declared a crime scene and she's a baker without an oven.  Hannah must cook up a plan to save her business by catching the killer herself.
