MYSTERY
city for ransom
(prequel to Shadows in the White City)
Anyone who enjoyed Caleb Carr, Erik Larsen, Conan Doyle, Dickens
with a bit of Wes Craven thrown in would enjoy this
HYStery-MYstery novel set in 1893 against the backdrop of the
Chicago World's Fair. Inspector Alastair Ransom, like most
in the CPD is not thrilled to have the extra crime that comes
along with the mammoth White City celebrations, and he is soon
plauged by a rash of killings
attributed to the Phantom of the Fair. With the dubious
help of Phrenologist and Magnetic Healer Dr. J.Phineas Tewes,
Alastair is, while jaded, on the case. This is a
fast-paced homage to Dickens and Doyle. It's not your
father's Sherlock Holmes but close enough to please.
